Perfect song for first wedding dance
Picking your first dance song can be a daunting task, here are some tips to help you pick the perfect song!
After your wedding ceremony, you’ll head to your reception, where you will be announced as “Mr. and Mrs.” and will enjoy all of the festivities that go along with your wedding day! One of the traditional activities that takes place to open up the dance floor is for you and your beloved to have a first dance as a married couple. This is the time for all eyes to be on you, and for you and your new spouse to dance to song that you’ve chosen just for this occasion. How will you pick a song? If you don’t already have one in mind, here are some pointers:
  • Use “your song.”
Do the two of you already have a song that you have claimed as the anthem for your relationship? If so, this is the song that you might want to choose for your first dance. It’s okay if it’s not a traditional “first dance” song; dancing to something a little offbeat will give your wedding character!

  • Use a song that is meaningful in some other way.
Perhaps you’d like to use the wedding song of your grandparents or your parents, or a song that was playing when you got engaged. Maybe there is a song that you’ve heard that simply tells the story of your relationship perfectly, as though it was written for the two of you. If so, that’s probably the perfect song to dance to!

  • Consider your style.
If you are at the point of listening to every love song you can in an effort to pick something, it might be better to narrow your options based on your personalities. By determining what type of couple you are , you might be able to put your fingers on a few songs to consider. Staunch traditionalists will likely find a different song suitable than die-hard rebels, for example!

  • Ask your DJ for suggestions.
Wedding DJs are well-versed in helping couples to choose the perfect music for their weddings! Yours will probably ask you some questions about the type of dancing you envision for yourselves and can make some suggestions for you to consider. Think about whether you would prefer to just sway to the music together, if you know (or will be learning) how to do some ballroom dancing, or if you’re more of a go-with-the-flow type of dancer.

  • Write your own song.
Are either of you songwriters, or part of a band? If so, you can write your own lyrics and music to play at your wedding. What a unique and special first dance that would be!
Choose your first dance song wisely, as people will probably ask you what song you danced to in the future when they look at your wedding album. It will also be the song that makes you catch your spouse’s eye years from now when you hear it playing on the radio or while out and about.
If you are already married, what was your first dance song? If you are engaged, have you chosen one yet?
