Preferred Vendor List
Just because a business is not on the list, it doesn’t mean that they’re not the perfect professional for you. Here are some considerations to keep in mind:
While there’s nothing wrong with interviewing the businesses on your venue’s preferred vendors list, you shouldn’t automatically assume that just because a business is on the list, they’re the right one for you (or the corollary, for that matter: Just because a business is not on the list, it doesn’t mean that they’re not the perfect professional for your special day). Here are some considerations to keep in mind:
  • Remember how vendors get on the lists to begin with .
A banquet hall owner puts down businesses that he’s worked well with in the past. If a good number of brides and grooms are happy with their wedding dj, then that entertainment company might make the list. This is a good way to find a dj that doesn’t do a bad job, but not necessarily a good way to find a dj who does a spectacular job. In rare cases, unscrupulous hall owners might sell space on their preferred vendors lists to local professionals; be sure to ask the owner if he accepted payment from the businesses in exchange for putting them on the list!
  • Smaller companies might not make the list .
It doesn’t mean that they’re not excellent vendors. Instead, it may mean that they perform at fewer weddings as the larger companies in the area, and may not have worked with that banquet hall before, or may have had limited engagements at that hall in particular. There are advantages to using smaller companies, including their ability to work with you more closely and in a more individualized capacity than a larger company, simply because they have the time to do so.
  • Newer companies might not make the list .
This is because they haven’t been around as long, and haven’t done as many weddings... but newer business owners are often very passionate and excited about wedding entertainment.
  • If the wedding entertainment professional that you choose isn’t on the list, you can still use them!  They may have to go through a short process to be approved by the venue, but it shouldn’t be a problem at all.
  • If you are happy with your wedding dj
and they’re not on the preferred vendors list, be sure to let the venue owner know; he might be willing to put him on the list for future brides and grooms!
When looking for a wedding dj, don’t limit yourself to checking out only those on the vendors list given to you by your venue manager. Ask around and be sure that you have a good rapport with the one you end up choosing. Remember that wedding entertainment is what your guests will talk about for years to come, so it’s not a decision to make lightly!
