Christmas Wedding Ideas
Christmas is a favorite time for weddings and all of the love that they add to the season. Here are some great ideas and tips for your holiday wedding.
Are you planning a Christmas wedding? What’s not to love about the holiday season? From the gorgeous, to the glistening, ice-covered tree branches, to the possibility of fresh new snowflakes, to the magical feeling hanging in the air, Christmas is a favorite time for weddings and all of the love and joy that they add to the season. If you are considering a Christmas wedding next year (or if you’re looking to put a few finishing touches on your upcoming Christmas wedding in a few short weeks), read on for some great ideas and tips:
  • Mail save-the-date cards early
Because people tend to travel and make plans during the holidays, sending out invitations in early November with no prior mention of your date is likely to cause some disappointment when guests can’t come. Send out save-the-date cards well in advance of the big day. Over the summer would not be too early. If you’re planning next year’s wedding now, take some Christmasy pics of you and your fiance to make the cards out of in about six months.

  • Be creative with your flowers
While traditional bridal flowers often feature roses or tulips, Christmas brides can definitely get creative! How about poinsettias, backed by pine tree branches? Or holly and berries, with some pinecones mixed in? Take full advantage of the foliage of the season, both in your bridal bouquet and when it comes to your centerpieces. Remember too, that if you’re getting married in a church, it will be all decked out for the occasion, so take a look at the flowers, candles and lights that will be up before making your final decisions on what types of flowers to use.

  • Think out of the box when it comes to favors
Could you hand out Christmas ornaments or perhaps snowflake-shaped picture frames? These can double as place cards as well. How about small jars filled with hot cocoa mix, chocolate chips and a few chopped-up mint candies? Tie with a pretty ribbon, add a label with your information, and you’re good to go. There are also so many ideas on Pinterest and similar sites for making charming homemade ornaments and decorations; you could choose one and spend a few Sunday afternoons making them with your bridesmaids. This is a great way to bond with them and get in some girl-time before you tie the knot!

  • Don’t forget the music and entertainment!
Christmas is filled to the brim with some great songs and traditions that you can incorporate into your ceremony and reception. Ask your wedding entertainment company for suggestions, as they’re sure to have a ton. How about reindeer ears and Santa hats for photo shoots? Imagine the glee on everyone’s face if your beloved were to wear a Santa hat and wig, and you danced to, “I Saw Mama Kissing Santa Claus” for your first song! Or maybe you two lovebirds could perform a duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Use your imagination!
Weddings are magical, and Christmas is magical, so when you put them together, you’re sure to have a truly spectacular and special day.
